Denon Poa-4400 Service Manual
I've been hunting around for information on the Denon POA-6600 Mono Amp. I'm coming up short and wanted to see if anyone here knew more about this monster. I came across a pair and despite the limited information I found, rolled the dice and acquired them. They've been nicknamed Godzilla and Rodan.

What I have been able to find is mixed information on the POA-6600 and another model POA-660A ( I have the non A version). One has a broken RCA Jack ( not a deal breaker since It also has a balanced input, I'll just go that route) The other has a slightly loose Gain knob ( since for me this is a 'set it and forget it' I'm in no rush to have anyone pop the hood). A tiny Nick here, a scratch there, otherwise they appear to the naked eye to be in good shape. I connected them to a pair of NHT 1.3a (figuring it's fairly light duty) and they played fairly well. I'll try them on a few other sets of speakers I have as well. Perhaps a pair of Sonus Faber Concertos in a few days if I'm lucky. I did read a few stories of them having 'issues'.
Each one of mine has an old repair sticker and indicates that one had an RCA terminal fixed (or replaced) and the other looks to have had some work done on it's output stage. Is there a PDF manual to be downloaded somewhere? Also any users of these amps out there (past or present) who can share a little bit of their personal history on this amp?
As for my new additions, Godzilla and Rodan will be under close watch ( or LISTEN) while I search for some additional information on their lineage. I took the gamble, hopefully it was a good one. If they check out fine, I'd consider an IEC receptacle Mod (the power cables seem a bit whimpy). Thanks in advance. I've run these amplifiers since they were introduced.
Having been all over this business, I have heard many, many amplifiers at every imaginable price point. The 6600s were designed by Nelson Pass for Denon, are fast, fast, fast (500V/uSec), can drive virtually any load, are sweet, accurate, transparent and musical.
I absolutely LOVE them. I can own any amplifier I want, and yet I still run these after all these years. Avoid the 6600As at all costs. They sound nothing like the originals. There are issues with the amps, especially if they have been run for a long, long time.
But they are excellent. Funny story- one of the 6600s in my stack belonged to Jerry Garcia. Intersting comment about the 'A' being very different. That might explain something. I used to sell Denon and we had the big monoblocks in the store. None of us were very impressed, in fact we thought they actually sounded a bit odd.
We did sell a (very) few pairs and we did indeed have some reliability issues so though the sample was too small to come to any conclusions, it did not inspire confidence. Since then I have read several glowing comments about the 6600s and was wondering if I had been wrong about them.
I did not think that too likely because we could put the beside amps like the ML No. 23.5 and they really did come off a distant second. But why were some users describing them in terms that did not jibe with my experience? The fact that there were in fact two very different sounding ones would explain it.
We had them with the big DAP-5500 pre. Could those have been the 'A' version? How would you descride the sonic difference between the two versions and what had they changed internally? Thanks for the feedback.
There really isn't alot of information out there on this amp. @Chatta: The Manual link was for the schematic which is awesome to have as well. Someone else sent me some info on where I might be able to track down an actual owners manual. @Pacific Stereo: Very encouraging news regarding this amp. I may have them looked at by a local tech to find out if an IEC mod is possible and to fix the broken RCA.

( a little interior cleaning might also be in order). The POA-6600 weighs nearly as much as any of the 2, 3 or 5 channel Carver A series amps ( A500x, A753x, AV705x) I'm currently using.
I may have to sort out a pre amp down the road, I've been using the pre-amp of my Parasound Z components set up. Visually its pretty funny seeing a miniature pre-amp connected to these gi-normous power amps, but it's what I have available to use at the moment. I had an integra research RDC 7 upgraded that would have been a good match had I not sold it.
If I can find another one cheap, I'm on it. I wasn't even able to get any data on what they were worth before I purchased them but rolled the dice and think I landed a decent deal. Any idea what the current value of one of these amps are today? Lastly, what's the best way to cover up tiny nicks in the paint on black audio gear? Click to expand. Thanks for the follow up.

I'll add this to the growing project list. I finally got my hands on a DAP 5500 to pair with the POA 6600 - The digital side may be outdated technology but the Pre-amp still has a great story in how over the top Denon was in it's design. Like the 6600s the DAP 5500 preamp is built like a tank. I'm using a Belkin PF60 Power filter that will time delay power up on the amps, however, it would be nice to have the cables just for completeness of the set should I decide to sell the system.
